The music industry is usually known for its male dominance, but in 2019 boy how the tables have turned. We kicked off Labor Day Weekend on Thursday at the Theatre Of The Living Arts in Philadelphia, PA sponsored by EQ Distro, where the talent was just tremendous. Hosted by iconic singer and Love & Hip Hop star Lil Mo and Young Scholar took the stage ready to rock out. Artists such as Neek Bucks, Phresher, LGP Qua, Tangina Stone, Celeste, Z-Wayne, Rocky, Nino Man, and Nyeline just to name a few had the crowd amped. The line wrapped around the building as fans waited to start the party off right in the dimmed club-like venue. The famous theatre sold out weeks prior and truly set the tone for the rest of the star-studded week.
Saturday, we then headed to Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway where headliner Cardi B dripping in jewels, blessed the stage performing hit after hit kicking off her setlist with “Get Up 10”. The line up was epic, with artists like Juice World, Meghan Thee Stallion, Kaskade, Rosalia, Anderson Paak & The Nationals, Bazzi, Jorja Smith, Roddy Rich, Jay Critch, Calboy, and many others, Jay Z definitely knew what he was going for this year.
But, Sunday was a whole different vibe with Beyonce in the building why would it be anything less than epic. Even though Bey didn’t perform, watching the queen jamming out on her 38th birthday to every song upcoming legend Lizzo performed was everything. The full figured diva belted out hits like “Tempo”, “Juice”, and of course “The Truth Hurts”. Lizzo shared the moment on a close-up photo of Bey and Jay rocking out to her beats on Instagram with a caption, “Swipe to lose your f***king mind.” The dope sets didn’t end there with Jorja Smith, Rosalis, Philly’s own–Tierra Whack, and Travis Scott as the headliner, who also blew the crowd away. PA truly went all out this year by even paying homage to the Philadelphia native, Meek Mill by naming a street in his honor. The weather was perfect, the crowd was hyped and the MIA fest was the most drama-free its ben in years. Jay Z truly did it up this year. Happy Birthday Bey!
