Coachella has set the stage for many artists to have monumental moments and leave fans with performances that they will never forget. One of the musicians who effortlessly stole the show this weekend was none other than Afrobeat singer-songwriter Tems.
During her exhilarating set, Tems called Wizkid and Justin Bieber to join her on stage as they delivered their verses on Wizkid’s highly charted single “Essence”. Together, the trio wowed the crowd with their temperature-rising performance.
Before closing her set, the “Free Mind” songstress unveiled that her new album Born In The Wild was complete and performed a single from the LP called “Love Me Jeje.”
Fans were eager to see who Tems would bring to the stage as she wrote a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, earlier that day.
Without revealing too much information, the singer penned:
“Coachella!I am too exciteddd. I have a surprise tonight.”
Wizkid and Tems’ “Essence” was released in 2020. Following its release, “Essence” earned a spot on Billboards’ Hot 100 chart and eventually became the first Afrobeats record to secure the No. 9 spot on the chart. Since then, “Essence” has set the bar high for many artists in the genre.
Wizkid has made noise in the music world, solidifying features with R&B, pop, and hip-hop hitmakers like Chris Brown, Drake and Justin Bieber.
Although these artists have pushed to diversify their portfolio and music, Bieber is not new to earning positions on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In the span of his career, Biebs has scored 105 entries on the chart, with the last one being in 2021. Needless to say, fans already know the impact Bieber has had on the music culture so far. Despite dealing with health problems publicized by the media, Justin Bieber has shown countless times that the hard times don’t last.
In the midst of their outstanding performance, Tems, Wizkid, and Justin Bieber represented the power of hope and vulnerability. Through their music, the notable artists create a space safe for their fans, assuring that they can relate to them on every way possible.
Coachella has hosted many heavy hitters this year, and there is more to come.
