The Terrifier franchise is written and directed by Damien Leone. He’s been telling stories about Art The Clown since 2008. The character first appeared in a short film called The 9th Circle. Once 2011 hit, he had his own self-titled short film. At the time, Art The Clown was played by Mike Gianelli before he retired. Both movies were then added to All Hallows’ Eve in 2013.
Art got his first feature movie in 2016’s Terrifier. Following this, he reappeared in 2022’s Terrifier 2, which earned approximately $15.7 million at the box office with an estimated $250,000 budget.
