Teyana Taylor gifted fans with a new single today (June 12). The Keep That Same Energy songstress is back with a sultry track that is quite full of surprises.
First, the song features Taylors husband, and professional NBA player Iman Shlumpert (who received credit as IMAN), and depicts him as her on-screen/off-screen love interest. In his verse, he raps about whatever bumps in the road they encounter throughout their relationship, and the manner in which their undying affection for one another serves as a guiding light. However, as far as we can see, the only bump ahead belongs to Taylor when she reveals her pregnancy by having their four-year-old daughter Iman Tayla “Junie” Shumpert Jr. hug and kiss her baby bump.
In the beginning, Taylor’s baby bump is strategically hidden with the sheets from the bed. In another scene, she’s submerged fully in a foamy bubble bath. In the final scene, Taylor and Shumpert’s four-year-old daughter joins them to cuddle in bed. Around the 3:00-minute mark, Junie pushes her father’s hand away so she can cradle Taylor’s stomach all by herself, a compelling moment the actress/singer/model says happens frequently at home.
“What she did at the end of the video is Junie the whole time,” Taylor told People. “She hogs the whole baby all the time. We were in the bed and loving on one another, and she jumped on the both of us like, ‘I’m here!’ It’s the cutest thing.”
Both the record and visual are packed with warmth, romance and affection as the two nestle together in bed, and profess their unwavering love for one another. The entire exchange is nothing short of dreamy as they recite the lyrics while getting lost in each other’s eyes. In her signature searing wordplay, Taylor beckons her beloved and calls him to please her in the morning, something the sheets or herself won’t accomplish. “I want you to wake up, love. These sheets won’t comfort me. Please wake up, love. I might just comfort me. But I just need you holding me. Needing your affection. Wake up, love,” she croons.
“Wake Up Love” follows “Bare Wit Me,” “Made It,” “We Got Love” featuring Lauryn Hill and “How You Want It?” featuring King Combs as the singles on her upcoming studio LP The Album, which is due sometime this month according to her Instagram.
