‘The New Mutants’ is opening next month in theaters everywhere. For a movie that’s been so delayed, time has come around very quickly. The recently released teaser introduces the newest genetically enhanced beings to themselves, tag lining “Time to face your demons”.
Danielle Moonstar (Blu Hunt) is taken to the hospital after being ill from a condition that may very likely be connected to her inherited mutant abilities. The hospital wreaks suspension and just as her instinct suggested the hospital is indeed holding them hostage for dark intentions.
The film follows a group of young mutants trapped in a hospital and hunted by dark forces — one of those forces being the demon bear that Mutant fans know from ‘X-Men’ comics of the 80’s.
The classic Mutants characters still remain familiar for this film- centered on the teenage students of Charles Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, most of whom became integral parts of X-Men mythology over the subsequent decades, and remain prominent to this day: Danielle Moonstar, aka Psyche/Mirage, who can create three-dimensional representations of her opponents’ fears and wishes; Sam Guthrie, aka Cannonball, who becomes nigh-invulnerable as he rockets through the air; Xi’an Coy Manh, aka Karma, who can possess other people’s bodies; Roberto da Costa, aka Sunspot, who gains superhuman strength from solar energy; and Rahne Sinclair, aka Wolfsbane, who’s essentially a werewolf.
Josh Boone (director and co-writer) brings the comics created by “X-Men” writer Chris Claremont and artist Bob McLeod to big screens everywhere April 3rd.
