Since he first decided to take on a career in acting, few actors have seen the success that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has. Having starred in a myriad of films since the dawn of the century from Get Smart to his recurring role in the Fast & Furious franchise, The Rock has come a long way to say the least since his humble roots as a WWE wrestler. He shows no signs of slowing down either, continuing to be one of the hardest working men in Hollywood as he is constantly working on something for audiences around the world. Though the pandemic might have hampered his work pace a bit, he is back and better than ever with his latest project Red One set to be a Christmas film in partnership with Amazon.
Kicking off his career in the 1990’s as one of the WWE’s best performers for a number of years, Johnson was seemingly poised for something much bigger than wrestling from the start. His recent success serves to highlight that incredibly well with “The Rock” starring in a number of films every year, virtually all of which end up seeing box office success. Now that the pandemic has begun to wind down he is back to his typical hardworking self and is ready to excite audiences once again, this time in the upcoming holiday picture Red One. Set to reunite with the director of the latest Jumanji reboot films Jake Kasden, the film was described by Hiram Garcia, head of production at Johnson’s imprint Seven Bucks Productions, as “An epic, edge-of-your-seat, action adventure that takes the beloved holiday mythology and turns it on its head.” He certainly does a good job of hyping up the project, however eager fans will have to wait quite some time as the film isn’t anticipated to release until the 2023 holiday season.
Though he is certainly still built like a professional wrestler, The Rock’s larger-than-life persona is just a part of who he is now. There is virtually no role he is too big for, both literally and metaphorically, and thus, he is ready to lend his talents wherever he sees fit. Now that will be in the form of a holiday film, and knowing Johnson it could end up being a classic; we will just have to wait and see as more details emerge about Red One in the coming future.
