There’s no secret that Viola Davis is a very talented woman. I’m so honored to announce that she’s so talented that she just went EGOT. EGOT is when a person has won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. Emmys are awarded for TV whereas the Grammys give out awards for sound and audio, Oscars are geared toward movies, and Tony is for Musical Theater. So for a person to win an award in every category means they are just a top-tier artist. Only 18 people have ever achieved this feat.
Viola was born in South Carolina, in 1965. Davis’s mother was a civil rights activist. She and Viola wound up in jail after being at a civil rights rally when she was just 2 years old. Later in life, she went on to study at Rhode Island College and majored in theater. After doing the National Student Exchange, she found herself at Julliard and became a member of the drama division. She kicked off her career by doing a theater production of William Shakespeare’s comedy As You Like It.
Now let’s break down how she’s EGOT.

Grammy: Spoken Word Album (2023)
Oscar: Best Actress (2012 & 2022)
