The first Wonder Woman trailer debuted in São Paulo, Brazil at the CCXP where Gal Gadot and beloved director Patty Jenkins personally delivered the presentation. The trailer takes the action back to the 80’s amongst the peak of the Cold War with plenty of familiar faces. Expectations are set high for this sequel as director Patty Jenkins returns to the DC universe and Gal Gadot reprises as Diana Prince. The trailer shows the return of Cheetah and Maxwell Lord aswell.
The 80’s Wonder Woman is brought to us by Patty Jenkins on co-write alongside David Callaham (The Expendables) and movie executive Geoff Johns who also contributed to the story treatment. The last Jenkins directed Wonder Women brought major success to the DCEU era in 2017 being the first movie during that time to top both critical and financial charts. Wonder Woman 2017 grossed $821million globally, $412 million of that was made domestic which stands as a record for the DC Films franchise. Hints to why to why it’s been said that this film is expected to be one of the biggest sequels of 2020.
With that said, getting Patty Jenkins back for this sequel was set as urgent priority and apparently wasn’t the easiest lock down since Warner Bro.s didn’t include a sequel into her initial contract. In Jenkins favor her return for Wonder Woman include a mighty wonderful paycheck and/or paychecks.
The 1984 Wonder Women cast includes Chris Pine (Star Trek Beyond, Hell or High Water), Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters), Pedro Pascal (Kingsman: The Golden Circle, The Mandalorian), Natasha Rothwell (Insecure, Like a Boss), Ravi Patel (Long Shot, Grandfathered), Gabrielle Wilde (Poldark, Carrie), Connie Nielsen (Gladiator, The Devils Advocate) and Robin Wright (Unbreakable, House of Cards).
Wonder Woman 1984 is scheduled to hit theaters on June 4, 2020.
