Over the past few decades, Hollywood films have essentially taken on a life of their own. While there have been no dramatic changes in the way that these movies are filmed, the style of storytelling employed by these films has evolved quite substantially as well. Producers and directors are thinking more “out-of-the-box” than ever before with their efforts being especially appreciated by diehard fans of the countless projects that creative minds develop year after year. Now it looks like they’ll be getting a follow up to one of those projects very soon: Will Smith is set to reprise his role as, what appears to be, one of the last cognizant individuals on the planet in the upcoming I Am Legend sequel.
Originally released in 2007, I Am Legend stars Smith in a post-apocalyptic world in which an attempt to cure cancer goes horribly wrong and leads to the mutation of a disease that virtually wipes out humanity. While the disease outright kills most of humanity, it was a completely different impact upon others and turns them into vampire-like creatures who prey upon survivors like Smith’s character. The film was a massive success upon its initial release generating nearly $600 million in box office receipts annually in 2007, but it looks like Warner Brothers isn’t done quite yet. The revered production studio has announced plans for a sequel in I Am Legend 2 that will see Smith reprise his iconic role, and he will be joined by another talented face in the fan favorite actor Michael B. Jordan in the upcoming project. Jordan’s role in the upcoming sequel hasn’t been made immediately clear but it should be interesting to see the talented duo team up, and eager fans can remain on the lookout for further updates regarding I Am Legend 2 in the coming weeks.
Will Smith is a name that has been dominating film and television for decades now, and Michael B. Jordan is following firmly in his footsteps. It should be interesting to see how the duo work alongside one another and if there will be a moment where the torch is metaphorically passed down, however fans will just have to remain patient to find out for themselves.
