Gunna‘s sophomore project WUNNA is predicted to top next week’s Billboard 200 at No. 1. According to HITS Daily Double, the album is expected to garner between 110,000 to 130,000 equivalent album units with 2,000 to 5,000 in album sales. If forecasts are accurate, WUNNA will be the rapper’s first-ever No. 1 album and will surpass Drip or Drown 2‘s 90,000 units from 2019.
WUNNA is an astrology-themed album about the life and times of Gunna’s alter ego, Wunna. Gunna is Wunna; Wunna is Gunna. The title is also the acronym for “Wealthy Unapologetic N***a Naturally Authentic.” The albums cover art sports what he identifies as the Wunnascope, which encourages all Geminis to “drip offensively.” Within this project Gunna explores a yet unknown side of himself. From becoming a wealthy superstar, private jets to Maui, women lining up to take him to bed, earning $150 thousand per show, down to wearing custom VLONE he unapologetically taps into his new identity. He delivers this light flex through his warm, groggy, melodic murmur, making it easy for us all to feel welcomed into his world of luxury. His star-studded production, consisting of Wheezy, Turbo, Taurus, and Aviator Keyz, perfectly blended with his soothing vocals, also make it easy to navigate this detailed account of sex, money, and success.
The Georgia-bred rapper also features assists from mega-rappers like Travis Scott, Roddy Ricch, Lil Baby, and Young Thug, which has contributed to its widely positive reception. “I’m really just trying to tap in with me showing more of my personality, which is real life,” Gunna shared in a recent interview with Ebro on Beats 1 Radio via Apple Music. “You gotta tap in and let your fans know you more, so that’s where this came from. I made sure I touched every vibe. I got that real sht, that fun sht, I got that girl sh*t, and then I got that calm just Gunna flow, drip.”
