On Wednesday, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson announced on Instagram the cast of his new NBC show Young Rock. Adrian Goulx will portray Johnson at age 10, Bradley Constant will play him at 15, and Marco Polo star Uli Latukefu will step in to play him from ages 18-20.
Johnson’s mother, Ata Johnson, will be played by Stacey Leilua and Joseph Lee Anderson (Harriet) will portray his late father, Rocky Johnson. Johnson’s grandmother will be played by Ana Tuisila.
The series is about Johnson’s formative years. The Rock himself will appear in each episode, according to NBC. It will follow Johnson’s childhood all through his teenage years struggling to fit in and his days starting out playing football at the University of Miami.
Set to premiere in 2021, Young Rock just started production, according to Johnson’s Instagram, and is set to film for the next 18 months in Australia. Johnson is an executive producer on the show along with pilot co-writers Nahnatchka Khan (Fresh Off the Boat) and Jeff Chiang. The NBC series will be directed by Jefferey Walker who also serves as a producer.
The former professional wrestler was recently named the highest-paid male actor for the past two years, according to Forbes. The Rock recently starred in Netflix’s Red Notice which is set to come out later this year, following last year’s Jumanji: Next Level and Fast and Furious spinoff, Hobbs & Shaw.
