It’s been nearly a decade since the series finale of Breaking Bad, the groundbreaking television series that introduced the world to Saul Goodman. The crooked lawyer was a fan favorite from the moment he was introduced into the series, so much so that he warranted a spinoff series following the end of its successor. That spinoff has been an immense success as well with Bob Odenkirk set to embark as Goodman once again on the sixth and final season of Better Call Saul, ending a decade-long run as the character. While fans are surely going to be sad to see him go they still have one last season to look forward to, and to their excitement it has been confirmed that filming of said season has commenced.
This news was confirmed on Twitter by series co-creator Peter Gould, sharing an image of a clapboard with a picture of Saul Goodman’s alternate identity, Gene. The image also highlights that director Michael Morris will return to the camera this season, previously directing three episodes of the series; he will also be joined by director of photography Marshall Adams who served as DP of the 2019 Breaking Bad movie, El Camino. While the plot details of the upcoming season remain unclear, Odenkirk confirmed in an interview with Collider that filming would begin around this time while also adding: “I’m told that the wheels come off in Season 6 and it explodes in a million directions.” If Goodman’s track record is any indication of what’s to come, it is sure to be an interesting end to an era.
After thirteen years, it looks like the saga of Walter White and his colleagues is finally coming to a wrap. All good things must come to an end however, and AMC has certainly done Saul Goodman justice since the premiere of Better Call Saul in 2015. The series has already been subject to COVID-19 related delays with this season already being pushed back to 2022, however this gives producers plenty of time to give fans the best final season possible. Regardless, fans can look forward to a final 13 episodes with Odenkirk as Saul Goodman and say one last goodbye to their favorite lawyer.
