Jonah Hill has come a long way since his Hollywood career first took off in the early 2000’s. Most of us will remember when his career took off in 2007 after starring in the coming-of-age comedy film Superbad, a huge commercial success when it was released and still considered to be a classic by many. In the almost decade and a half since then he has established himself as arguably one of the hardest workers in the film industry, starring in feature films like 21 Jump Street and The Wolf of Wall Street while also making his directorial debut with 2018’s Mid90s. His next project will even see him working on both sides of the camera: Hill will produce and star as Sidney Korshak, Chicago lawyer and mafia middle-man, in a new limited series that is in the early stages of production.
Korshak made a career for himself as a lawyer for the likes of infamous mobsters Al Capone and Frank Nitti, however his most infamous relationship was with a Hollywood executive. Lew Wasserman, best known for creating the modern talent agency, shared a special relationship with the fixer from Chicago that enabled the duo to milk their respective industries for everything they were worth, going as far as facilitating the rise of former President Ronald Reagan. Their complex relationship and the impact it had upon the entertainment industry will now seemingly be the subject of a new project that is set to be produced by Jonah Hill and written by respected screenwriter William Monahan, best known for writing the 2006 film The Departed, with Hill playing the notorious attorney. It is currently unclear who will star alongside Hill in the series or who will distribute the project however it is safe to expect a lengthy list of suitors in either case.
Hill is certainly no stranger to the genre of corporate underworld, being nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 2014 Academy Awards for his role in The Wolf of Wall Street. Many are already comparing the project to films like La La Land and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood for daring to expose the underbelly of the entertainment industry which is a tall order for any project to stand up to, however if anyone can do it it is probably Hill and Monahan. It will certainly be interesting how they unpack this complex web of organized crime, labor unions and the darkest parts of the entertainment industry. Fans can remain on the lookout for future updates about the upcoming project and speculate about who might star alongside Hill.
