Over the course of Hollywood history, television has been dominated by a wide variety of sitcoms and comedy series that have been making families laugh for decades now. From sitcoms such as Everybody Loves Raymond and Two and a Half Men to iconic classics such as Seinfeld and Friends, the list is virtually endless and the hours of laughs they have generated are innumerable. New comedy series continue to be produced and serve to bring families together to this day, but the series that have shaped the genre of entertainment continue to live on no matter how many years later. Now one of those genre defining series is set to come back in a big way, with the beloved NBC series Community set to make its debut on the big screen with an official movie set to begin production very soon.
Premiering on NBC in 2009, Community is a series about a group of friends who are enrolled in the same community college and decide to form a study group. As innocuous as this may sound, this study group serves as the basis for the entire series as the diverse group navigates their way through the college experience. Community would go on to run for six seasons and a total of 97 episodes, but fans of the series were left disappointed when it abruptly came to an end after nearly five years and left them clamoring for more. Well now those fans are in luck as CBS has announced plans to bring Community to the big screen in an effort that the series’ star Joel McHale has deemed a “dream come true.” Details about the project remain sparse, however series creator Dan Harmon has confirmed that the series’ original cast will be reprising their roles for the pending project with all hands on deck to give fans everything they’ve been waiting for. Eager fans will just have to wait for more details to emerge regarding Community: The Movie as production commences.
NBC has a long history of producing beloved television series, and Community is just one of many on that list. But Community has achieved cult classic status in recent years, making the fact that it’s making the move to the silver screen a very big deal. Fans will just have to wait and see what Harmon and company have in store for them whn Community: The Movie makes its premiere on Peacock in the very near future.
