The beloved horror animation film Coraline is getting a theatrical release for its 15th anniversary. However, this film version will be completely remastered and presented in 3D. As per Forbes, Coraline also re-released in theaters last year and earned over $5 million. The news about Coraline re-hitting big screens was announced on LAIKA Studios’ X account. In a tweet, a representative wrote: “In celebration of its 15th Anniversary, we invite you to experience #Coraline in Remastered 3D worldwide this August.” You can see the announcement here.
Coraline takes inspiration from Neil Gaiman’s novel. The movie contains stop-motion animations and is about a young girl who discovers a better life after discovering a magic portal to a parallel world. However, things change for the worse once Coraline discovers everything isn’t as it seems.
The synopsis states,
“A young girl walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her life. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life – only much better. But when this wondrously off-kilter, fantastical adventure turns dangerous, and her counterfeit parents try to keep her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to save her family and get back home.”
Coraline stars Dakota Fanning as Coraline Jones, John Hodgman as Charlie Jones, Teri Hatcher as Mel Jones, Dawn French as Miriam Forcible, Jennifer Saunders as April Spink, Robert Bailey Jr. as Wybie Lovat, Carolyn Crawford as Mrs. Lovat, Ian McShane as Sergei Alexander Bobinsky, and Keith David as The Cat. The original movie dropped in February of 2009.
