Director Taika Waititi hosted a live viewing party on Instagram Live for his film Thor: Ragnarok which featured special appearances from Tessa Thompson, and Mark Rufallo who hinted at some details about the sequel Thor: Love and Thunder.
Thor: Love and Thunder was set to hit theaters on November 5, 2021, but since the coronavirus pandemic, Disney has shifted all of the release dates of MCU’s phase 4. The film will now be premiering on February 18, 2022.
However, fans have grown anxious amidst the postponement of their favorite films. To ease some of the apprehension, Waititi revealed that he’s already on his fourth or fifth draft of the much anticipated movie. While sharing some images of Miek’s “new design,” and concept art of the new Asgard, he “accidentally” left an opened script hiding in plain sight.
Upon closer analysis of the “leaked” script, which seems pretty convenient, you notice that the scenes describe a scenario where Tony Stark is still alive, only to reveal that Thanos is also still alive (cue dramatic music).
The director also shared that the sequel isn’t going to be a “run-of-the-mill” movie and that it is going to up the ante when it comes to the outlandish nature of Thor: Ragnarok. He joked, “It’s like 10-year-olds told us what should be in a movie and we said yes to every single thing.”
When the film was first announced at Comic-Con, we learned that Thompson’s character Valkyrie is looking for her queen making her one of the first LGBTQ characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (it’s also confirmed that there is a gay character in the forthcoming Eternals). During the livestream she asked if the rocky character of Korg, played by Waititi, will have a romantic interest — and in the comics, we learn that he is also gay.
Waititi said he won’t have a romantic interest in the sequel because he was “deeply in love and lost that love along the line.” He added, “He doesn’t feel brave enough to find love again.” However, he did hint at the fact that we will find out more about the specificities of Krog’s Kronan culture.
Eventually, Thompson signed off and welcomed Ruffalo, who plays Hulk, into the Instagram Live screening party where they talked more about making Ragnarok and had some fun engaging with fans.
