Disney’s classic animated film Aladdin is being remade into a horror film. Based on the original Middle Eastern folk story with the same name, the Aladdin flick centers on “a modern-day Londoner named Aladdin who inherits an ancient monkey’s paw that supposedly grants wishes.” However, Aladdin discovers that every desire comes at a soul-crushing price. As those around him fall victim to its curse, he must confront a growing evil and the demonic force that feeds on every wish made.
Scheduled to begin filming in the UK next month, the movie is titled Aladdin: The Monkey’s Paw. The project is a collaboration between Empire Studios, Every Entertainment, and 8th Law Pictures. It’s being directed by Bradley Stryker, who also stars alongside Nick Sagar, Ricky Norwood, and Montana Manning. Charley McDougall penned the script and also produced with Stryker, Sagar, and Jamie McLeod-Ross. Executive producers include Rustin Matthew, Terry Bird, and Arthur Corber.

McDougall shared why he wanted to venture into an Aladdin horror tale:
“We always wanted to explore horror through a personal lens, not just the scares, but the human cost of wishes. This story’s been haunting us for a while, and it’s time to let it loose. The best horror films linger long after the credits roll. That’s what this story does. It’s sharp, emotional, and full of dread in all the right ways.”
Stryker added:
“This film will be so much fun. It’s all about the highs and lows of what we define as dreams and desires… and then we slam that into a genre film where the stakes have never been more diabolical and entertaining.”

A release date for Aladdin: The Monkey’s Paw has yet to be announced.
