Netflix has released the official teaser trailer for Maria, a drama film starring Angelina Jolie and directed by Pablo Larraín. The movie delves into the life of legendary opera singer Maria Callas, highlighting her rise to fame and her journey as one of the world’s most renowned vocalists. It also explores her later years as she seeks a quieter life away from the spotlight.
As per the official logline, “Maria follows the American-Greek Soprano as she retreats to Paris after a glamorous and tumultuous life in the public eye. Maria reimagines the legendary soprano in her final days as she confronts her identity and her life.”
The film is directed by Pablo Larraín from a screenplay penned by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. The cast also features Albany Rohrwacher, Pierfrancesco Favino, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Haulk Bilginer, and Valeria Golino. Executive producers include Juan De Dios Larraín, Jonas Dornbach, and Lorenzo Mieli, with production by The Apartment, Fabula, Komplizen, and Fremantle.
Maria will be released in select theaters on November 27 and on Netflix on December 11. It recently premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation.
