Mark your calendar for the upcoming heatwave! Hykeem Jamaal Carter Jr., known as Baby Keem posted a teaser of his upcoming track with Kendrick Lamar, dropping at midnight EST, and boy is it hot! Tidal posted a snippet of the track to Twitter where Kendrick can be heard dropping the bar, “Smoking on your top five tonight.” Baby Keem has also posted several teasers himself to lead up to the August 26 drop. Three days ago, the rapper posted the cover art for the track titled, Family Ties with the caption, “Family Ties Thursday // 9pm PST.”
The cover art may seem familiar as it favors Kendrick’s 2012 good kid, m.A.A.d city artwork. The two are reported to be cousins, and the Family Ties cover art is a picture of their family members with their eyes blacked out except for Kendrick and Baby Keem. Family Ties will be the first track that Kendrick has appeared on this year since his last appearance on the Look Over Your Shoulder track with Busta Rhymes last Fall. This also comes a week after Kendric announced that his forthcoming album would be his final album with his longtime label Top Dawg Entertainment.
Baby Keem also posted an additional teaser of the music video. Kendrick can be heard rapping; however, the rap is encoded as it can be heard in reverse, quite the tease. The rapper did, however, repost a fan who unreversed the rap. Let’s just say that Kendrick is coming out swinging on the track! Check it out below as we wait on the drop. Baby Keem is also currently working on his first studio album, The Melodic Blue. If this is the prelude to the album, we have much to look forward to!
