At last, Big Sean and Jhene Aiko bring us the Twenty88 reunion we’ve all been waiting for. The pair joined forces to create the Detroit native’s sultry single, “Body Language.”
For this record, Sean Don and Aiko recruited Ty Dolla $ign to help them convey their intoxicatingly sensual message. “Body Language” appears on Big Sean’s chart-topping album, Detroit 2, which was executive produced by Hit-Boy. Detroit 2 also hosts appearances from Boldy James, Eminem, Nipsey Hussle, and more.
The mini-film captures the real-life couple making direct allusions to the roles of iconic onscreen duos from ’90s Black rom-com’s. From Tupac and Janet Jackson in Poetic Justice (1993) to Larenz Tate and Nia Long in Love Jones (1997), the couple depict Black love as they serenade us with their silky cadences. Aiko also embodies Angela Bassett’s fiery energy from Waiting to Exhale (1995) when she incinerates her ex’s car with his clothes inside. But, of course, no 2020 R&B record would be complete without Ty Dolla $ign blessing the chorus. He too is captured in each scene as her pours out his vocal magic.
“Big homage paying to a few of my favorite flicks growin up,” Big Sean wrote on Instagram about the movies he referenced in his music video.
