Amazon MGM Studios has officially greenlit a television series called The Greatest, which will memorialize boxing legend Muhammad Ali. The show is said to celebrate Ali’s legacy and tell his life story. All American: Homecoming star Jaalen Best will lead the iconic series as Ali and channel his inner strength. The estate of the former heavyweight champion boxer has signed on to the series. This project is expected to be one of the greatest of all time, setting high expectations for a once-in-a-while production.
The Greatest is executive produced by Ali’s widow, Lonnie Ali, showrunner Ben Watkins, Michael B. Jordan, and Josh Wakely, who brought the project to Amazon and acquired rights to it. This series will document Ali’s amazing wins, legendary accomplishments, and defeats inside and outside the ring, revealing everything you’ve always wanted to know.
“The heartbeat of the story is fueled by all the moments that took place outside of the spotlight,” Variety reports.
The series is produced by well-known companies, including Amazon MGM Studios, Outlier Society, Watkin’s Blue Monday Productions, Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, Universal Music Group’s Polygram Entertainment, and Authentic Studios. Interestingly, Authentic Studios owns the rights to Ali’s image.
Born on January 17, 1942 – Muhammad Ali died on June 3, 2016, after a 32-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.
