A promo in Japan features Anthony Mackie, who plays Captain America in Marvel’s upcoming movie Captain America: Brave New World uniquely using Sam Wilson’s shield. Comic Book Movie reports that in the teaser, Mackie drinks from a special toso cup version of Captain America’s shield. From there, Harrison Ford‘s President “Thunderbolt” Ross seems to get entangled with his unwanted other half right before Red Hulk breaks free. The clip also shows Captain America dodging incoming missiles with a shield given to him by Steve Rogers in Avengers: Endgame‘s closing credits.
In an exclusive interview with the aforementioned platform, Mackie expressed that Captain America: Brave New World will be a more “grounded espionage action movie.” With the new movie in effect, he sees this as an opportunity to “really establish [Sam Wilson] as a true action star and Avenger.”
The actor also implied that this movie serves as a culture-shifting moment for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“This movie is a clear reset,” he shared. “It really re-establishes the idea of what this universe is and what this universe is going to be. I think with these movies, you’re getting a clear, new branding of what Marvel is headed towards.”
The cast for Captain America: Brave New World includes Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore, Carl Lumbly, Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, and Harrison Ford. Directed by Julius Onah, the movie is produced by Kevin Feige and Nate Moore, and executive produced by Louis D’Esposito and Charles Newirth.
