The Wild Robot is still rolling on the big screen. However, according to DreamWorks, the animated flick has yet to be released in British multiplexes. Despite this, The Wild Robot has acclaimed much success at the box office and stolen the hearts of movie buffs.
Creative director Chris Sanders is leading the adaptation of Peter Brown‘s beloved book about a robot stranded on an island, which has steadily gained popularity. Following its debut, which grossed over $100 million, more developments are underway. At Deadline‘s Contender event in London, Sanders revealed that there’s a second movie in the works.
During the Contender event, Sanders confirmed that a sequel to The Wild Robot was coming soon. He stated, “100% yes, there are absolutely plans for a second one.”
Although Lupita Nyong’o’s participation as Roz, along with her co-stars Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, and Bill Nighy, is still pending, the storyline—centering on domestic droid Roz who crash-lands on a remote island and bonds with the local wildlife—naturally lends itself to a sequel.
The Wild Robot is the first in a trilogy, followed by The Wild Robot Escapes and The Wild Robot Protects. These narratives explore themes of technology’s interaction with nature and humanity’s environmental responsibilities. As of now, there are no official updates on the cast for the announced sequel.
As DreamWorks’ 30th anniversary celebrations continue, the studio shows no signs of slowing down. All in all, it’s thrilling to see this iconic animation powerhouse usher in a new ambitious franchise, further solidifying its legacy in the world of animation.
