Producer Will Packer has provided an exciting new update on Girls Trip 2 after a long wait of over two years since the sequel was first announced. However, as of now, there is no set start date for production or a confirmed release timeline. Director Malcolm D. Lee and writer Tracy Oliver are both expected to reprise their roles for the follow-up film.
In a recent interview on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live, producer Will Packer gave an exciting update, confirming that Girls Trip 2 is still in active development and that a script is already in place. He also hinted at plans to introduce new female characters to join the core cast, adding fresh faces to the sequel. Additionally, Packer revealed that he’s been closely following The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 16, as he’s always on the lookout for fresh talent to bring into the project.
“We are definitely looking at an exotic location for the sequel — I can’t give it away just yet, but for the first time, I actually have a script”.

Production & Casting
The original Girls Trip followed four college best friends who reunite in New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival, hoping to reconnect and revive their friendship. The film featured a talented ensemble cast, including Larenz Tate, Kate Walsh, Mike Colter, Mike Epps, Deborah Ayorinde, Lara Grice, and Kofi Siriboe. Produced by Universal Pictures and Will Packer, the movie also saw James Lopez and Preston Holmes serving as executive producers.
