Mister Cee, a Hot 97 disk jockey known for his powerful influence in New York and hip-hop culture, has sadly passed away at 57 years old. The radio station posted a sweet, empathetic statement on Instagram alongside a picture of DJ Mister Cee. You can look at it here.
It reads: “As a family at HOT 97 and WBLS, we’re deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved Mister Cee. He wasn’t just a DJ but a pillar of our stations, bringing joy to countless listeners with his legendary ‘Throwback at Noon’ and ‘Friday Night Live’ sets.”
“Mr. Cee’s influence stretched far beyond the airwaves, shaping the very fabric of NYC’s DJ culture,” the statement continued. “Our hearts are heavy as we send our love and condolences to his family and the fans whose lives he touched through his music. Rest easy, Mr. Cee. Your legacy will live forever.”
Mister Cee’s cause of death has yet to be revealed.
Calvin LeBrun, known as DJ Mister Cee, was born in Brooklyn. Mister Cee got his big break after meeting Big Daddy Kane in high school. Eventually, the two collaborated on Big Daddy Kane’s Long Live the Kane. Additionally, Mister Cee is credited for discovering Notorious B.I.G. in the early ’90s before Biggie signed to Diddy‘s Bad Boys Records. The New York musical figure deejayed on Biggie’s debut LP, Ready to Die, in 1994 as well.
