Inside Out 2 is now the second-biggest animated film of all time at the box office. Since hitting theaters on June 14, 2024, the sequel has earned around $3.8 million domestically, taking its running total to $578. A month ago, Screen Rant even predicted that Inside Out 2 would earn close to $400 million.
The stats aren’t shocking, considering that three days after its release, Inside Out 2 amassed an impressive $295 million at the box office. Inside Out 2 is on the verge of becoming the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, with $1.36 billion in global earnings. In the overseas market, it earned under $790 million. Meanwhile, Inside Out attained $65 million at the box office.
If Inside Out 2 continues its successful run in theaters, it’ll take the number one slot from Incredibles 2, which garnered $608 million in the domestic box office. Before Inside Out 2, The Super Mario Bros. Movie had the second-biggest earnings at the box office, raking in $574 million.
According to the logline, Inside Out 2 focuses on Riley’s teenage years as she grows into adolescence. Things take a turn, though, once her “feelings” headquarters gets an unexpected visit from “Anxiety” and other emotions that come with it. As many teenagers are conflicted with anxiety, Riley will have to figure out and learn to deal with these new emotions internally. In turn, her former and unexplored emotions must figure out a balance and change the landscape.
