Jim Carrey revealed the real reason why he came out of retirement. During the premiere of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in London, the actor, who is reprising his role as Dr. Robotnik, said it only felt right to come back to the Sonic realm for a third time because his character is “a genius.” Afterward, Carrey got candid with the interviewer about his finances, hilariously stating that he decided to stop his hiatus to earn more cash.
“I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch,” he stated. “And, you know, it’s just … I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly.”
Jim Carrey mentioned that he was going to retire during an interview with Access Hollywood in 2022. He revealed that he had “done enough” acting and was “fairly serious” about retiring.
“I really like my quiet life and I really like putting paint on canvas and I really love my spiritual life and I feel like … I have enough,” Carrey stated.
He went on to say that he’d only emerge back into acting if “the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see.”
The cast for Sonic The Hedgehog 3 includes Keanu Reeves as Shadow, Ben Schwartz, Krysten Ritter, and others.
