The original Lilo & Stitch holds a special place in fans’ hearts, and now, it’s coming back in a whole new format: as a live-action film. Disney has given fans a glimpse of what’s in store before it premieres in 2025.
At the Walt Disney Pictures panel during the D23 fan greet event, the excitement was palpable as a CGI-created alien furball burst onto the screen, announcing the long-awaited premiere of the new Lilo & Stitch movie.
Creative director Dean Fleischer Camp has beautifully crafted the film, focusing on the unique relationship between Lilo, an orphaned girl, and Stitch, the alien she considers family. Despite Stitch’s chaotic and destructive nature, the film beautifully portrays their evolving bond, making it a story that’s sure to captivate us all.
The live-action film was created by Chris Kekaniokalani and Mike Van Waes. Before they began writing the script, they drafted several ideas that would shape the story. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will produce the film, with Halprin serving as the executive producer.
The original cast will reprise their roles. The revamped Lilo & Stitch will star Chris Sanders (Stitch), Maia Kealoha (Lilo), Sydney Elizabeth Agudong (Nani), and Kaipo Dudoit (David Kawena). New cast members include Amy Hill and Tia Carrere.
Lilo & Stitch debuted in theaters in 2002, amassing $273.1 million at the box office. The anticipation for the Lilo & Stitch remake is building, and fans can’t wait to see it.
