The Wayans brothers are back with a thrilling surprise this Halloween!
On Tuesday, actor, comedian, and director Marlon Wayans said that he and his brothers are returning to the Scary Movie franchise with an all-new reboot.
“WE’RE BACK!!! After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally answering fans’ calls for a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise!” Wayans shared in an Instagram post, which included a photo of him alongside a person in a ghost mask.
The post continued with Marlon expressing his excitement, saying, “We’re ready to have fun on the big screen again!”
The reboot will feature an original script from the Wayans brothers, marking their first reunion project in 18 years, according to a release shared by a representative for Marlon Wayans.
The iconic Scary Movie series was originally created by Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans, with Marlon and Shawn writing and starring in the first two films while Keenen directed. Known for its hilarious parodies of classic horror films like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, the franchise became a cultural phenomenon.
This upcoming film will be the sixth installment in the series, which debuted in 2000 and whose latest release was in 2013.
Paramount Pictures and Miramax are producing the new movie.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to dive back into Scary Movie and work together again,” the Wayans brothers shared in a statement. “This is the franchise we created over 20 years ago. We remember people laughing out loud in theaters, and we hope to bring that joy back. We’re excited to work with Jonathan Glickman and the Miramax team to deliver these laughs on the big screen. It’s a double reunion!”
Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman added, “The timing couldn’t be better for bringing the series back, and we’re lucky to have Keenen, Marlon, and Shawn’s unique comedic perspective to share with audiences worldwide.”
The original Scary Movie made a significant impact in the horror scene, earning over $277 million at the global box office.
