On Monday evening (June 3), comedy legend Marlon Wayans held an early pop-up screening for his highly anticipated comedy special Good Grief at Lume Studios in New York, N.Y. Several guests were on the edge of their seats as they patiently waited to view Marlon’s new special firsthand. Notable names, such as The Feature Presentation and Power 105.1‘s DJ Suss One, Wild ‘N Out cast member and rap extraordinaire Justina Valentine, and triple RIAA gold and platinum-certified MC legend Lady Luck, to name a few, were also in attendance.
The event kicked off with a lively happy hour that consisted of top-shelf beverages and cocktails provided by Sovereign Brands, savory hor d’oeuvres by Chef Angel Rivera of Xperience Kitchen and Cocktails, and scrumptious treats presented by Chef Sage of SweetSageNYC to satisfy guests’ sweet tooth. After choosing from a selection of excellent food and beverages, attendees settled in for a night filled with good banter and laughter.
In Marlon Wayans: Good Grief, Wayans humorously describes what it was like growing up in Harlem, N.Y., with parents who had different religious and personal beliefs. He also details how their views affected him and his ten siblings during birthdays, holidays, and other significant moments.
Elsewhere in the comedy special, Marlon Wayans stresses the importance of listening and staying close to your parents. The renowned humorist also drops other words of wisdom about living life to the fullest and finding a smile, even in sad times.
At one point in the comedy special, Marlon Wayans effortlessly showed the power behind vulnerability as he described the relationship he had with his mother and father, how he maneuvered during their final days before death, and much more. He even poked some light-hearted fun at celebrities like Nick Cannon, Shaq, and Magic Johnson, to name a few.
After Marlon Wayans’ comedic special ended, he sat down with his good friend and Sirius XM Urban Morning’s very own Kevin Powell for a live Q&A.
