Disney+’s Marvel Zombies will have a TV-MA rating, according to Marvel Studios’ executive Brad Winderbaum.
During an interview with IGN, Winderbaum discussed the original Marvel Zombies comic books and how the series will mirror their storylines. He also noted that Marvel Zombies will be a “pretty intense” adaptation. Afterward, he explains why Marvel Zombies isn’t kid-friendly.
“In terms of more mature animation, yeah, we’re making a Marvel Zombies show right now that is pretty intense that’s for sure a TV-MA show,” Winderbaum stated. “And again, it’s trying to honor the comics. And what was so great about the comics was it not pulling its punches. That’s certainly what we’re going for on that project also.”
TV-MA means that a media program is unsuitable for people who are under 17 years old due to graphic violence, crude language, or suggestive activity.
Marvel Studios takes inspiration from the comic book series of the same name and a screenplay written by Zeb Wells. Wells is also the show’s executive producer and works alongside the show’s director, Bryan Andrew. The series is about a new generation of heroes from the Marvel Universe who fight against what seems to be a zombie apocalypse. Iman Vellani who plays Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel in The Marvels revealed that her character plays a significant role in Marvel Zombies.
While speaking to The Direct, Villani said
“There are a lot of cool characters in the Marvel Zombies show. And Kamala is kind of the center of the show. They described it to me, it’s like, ‘She’s basically the Frodo of the story.’ And I was like, ‘That’s amazing.'”
Marvel Zombies doesn’t have a release date at this time.
