If you love Kanye like Kanye loves Kanye, you’re in for a treat! Months after the news broke that Netflix acquired the rights to a documentary about the musical genius, Kanye West, the streaming service has followed up with additional details. During Netflix’s Global Fan Event, which live-streamed this past Saturday, the title was revealed for the three-part docuseries, as Jeen-Yuhs. The docuseries will reportedly drop sometime next year in 2022.
The series will be co-directed by Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah. The pair have worked on a few of West’s previous music videos, like Through the Wire and Jesus Walks. Simmons alone has been documenting different parts of West’s life since the 1990’s in Chicago. So the assumption is that although West is not directly involved with the documentary, he approves of Simmons’ involvement. In fact, the rapper took to Instagram yesterday, September 26, to post the 2002 video clip of himself rapping Two Words with Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def. The video clip served as a first look at the docuseries to come, which will chronologize over two decades of the artist’s life and career.
Although there is no official release date, the first look is enough to get true Ye fans engaged for what’s to come. The first look gave off throwback Kanye vibes, you know, the old Kanye. The video states that the recording is from New York 2002, the song in the first look, Two Words later appeared on West’s debut album, College Dropout. With all of West’s continued success, it will be great to see his story in documentary form. From his humble beginnings in Chicago to the billionaire musical genius he is today. He is Jeen-Yuhs!
Official synopsis: “Filmed over two decades, Jeen-yuhs is an intimate and revealing portrait of Kanye’s experience, showcasing both his formative days trying to break through and his life today as a global brand and artist.”
