Deadline reports that NBA megastar, Lebron James has teamed up with Universal Pictures to develop a movie adaptation of New York Times bestselling author Jerry Craft’s graphic novel, New Kid. Additionally, Jerry Craft will produce alongside Maverick Carter through their Spring Hill Entertainment banner.
The 2019 novel focuses on Jordan Banks, a seventh-grader who aspires to be a famous cartoonist. The plot centers on Jordan’s life as he navigates his way into a new luxurious private school that his parents forced him to attend, instead of enlisting him in his dream art school. New Kid has also received many awards, including becoming the first graphic novel to win a Newbery Medal and Coretta Scott King Award.
There is no release date as of yet on the film’s debut.
