NYCFW is always the most talked about week in fashion and usually attendees know what to expect, but not when it came to the sexy savage herself, Rihanna. On Tuesday night, the anticipated Rihanna Savage x Fenty show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, featured performances by Halsey, Migos, DJ Khaled, Big Sean, A$AP Ferg, Fat Joe, Fabolous and Tierra Whack. In the crowd were Kacey Musgraves, Diplo, Kehlani, Dascha Polanco, Luka Sabbat, Iskra Lawrence, Sabrina Elba, Saweetie, Paris and Nicky Hilton, Quincy Brown, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Hailee Steinfeld, G-Eazy and Vanessa Hudgens as stated by Hollywood Reporter.
The Barclay was taken over by 8pm where security was tight, photography was prohibited and cell phones were confiscated if anyone in the crowd even attempted to sneak visuals of the epic event. Super models such as Cara Delevinge who strutted herself in some of Rihanna’s hot fashion said to PEOPLE, “The second time we met, I was sitting in the audience and a bodyguard came and [brought] me [to her]. She opened the door and she was like ‘You are a rock star.’ I looked behind me and was like ‘Wait me? That’s weird because you’re the one who’s the rock star.’” The actress goes on to talk about the close friendship they’ve developed. “Rihanna has always been so lovely and such a good friend,” she adds. “I am awe of her and just so proud.”
Another close friend of the pop icon, Victoria’s Secret model Shanina Shaik stated,“I love that [Rihanna] thinks outside the box. It is really important that all brands make women feel confident about themselves. It’s not one body type in this world. We all have different shapes and sizes.” Rihanna has made a bold statement with the closing of her model selection promoting body-positive image a centerpiece of her brands — using a diverse cast of models in her campaigns and putting curvy mannequins on display at the pop-up shop for her LVMH Fenty clothing.
Is Rihanna the new Victoria’s Secret during NYCFW? I don’t know, but she sure comes close. Congratulations RiRi!
