Thanks to its previews on Thursday, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 might surpass Mufasa at the box office. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Paramount film has already cashed in $6.5 million and is expected to earn $60-70 million within three days. Mufasa, on the other hand, will possibly amass $3.3 million. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 secured $5 million in previews before having a $72.1 million opening. Meanwhile, The Lion King, which hit theaters in the summer, attained $23 million in previews while proceeding to a domestic opening north of $191 million. Given this information, it’ll be interesting to see which movie is more heavily impacted during the holiday season.
Mufasa follows two young cubs named Mufasa and Taka who become close like brothers before a threatening foe attempts to make them turn their back on each other. In the end, Mufasa and Taka are forced to embark on an adventure that will change their future and friendship. The movie’s voice cast includes Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., John Kani, Tiffany Boone, and much more.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 follow Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails as they join forces and go against a mysterious villain with powers that they’ve never witnessed. Team Sonic must partner up with an unlikely alliance to stop Shadow and protect the planet.
