After a new but very alarming episode of The Idol premiered on HBO Max this weekend, The Weeknd revealed what the show is really supposed to do.
Since The Idol premiered last month, viewers have been divided about the show’s context. The Idol‘s dark portrayal of sex, abuse, and harassment has sparked debates. But, according to the “Save Your Tears” singer, this is exactly what he wanted.
In an interview with Variety, The Weeknd said he’s excited for everyone to watch the rest of The Idol and the conversations that’ll follow it.
“We’re playing with genres with this show. We’re doing exactly what we wanted to do,” The Weeknd said.
“And none of this is a surprise. I’m excited for everyone to watch the rest of the show. It’s almost educational that this is what comes with being incredibly famous. You’re surrounded by people who you’re not sure what their true intentions are, even if it seems like they’re good. You just never know.”
The Weeknd is currently traveling throughout Europe for his After Hours Til Dawn tour.
