Box Office
As the years passed, there was an unexpected in the financial performance of the movie, with an estimated $53 million in revenue against a $23 million budget. This budget situation didn’t contribute to a successful debut for the film. However, around the time, DVD sales were able to revive film series that may not have performed well initially. In 2004, “The Chronicles of Reddick” experienced a much high sales rate despite having a budget of $100 million, although it was still considered a box off disappointment.
In 2013, a subsequent sequel titled “Riddick” returned to the aesthetic of ‘Pitch Black‘. The movie follows Riddick and a stranded team of mercenaries, including Katee Sackoff, who are forced to partner up together to survive on a hostile world. Additionally, Vin Diesel provided his voice to the creative director of the animated short film, “The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury,” which served as a bridge between two films, “Pitch Black” and “The Chronicles of Riddick”.
The upcoming film, Riddick Fury, is set to begin filming in August, but an official release date has not yet been announced.
