Over the course of Hollywood history, moviegoers have been treated to a vast array of films. From George Lucas’ iconic Star Wars franchise to the polarizing works of Quentin Tarantino, Hollywood is home to a little bit of everything and has something for everybody to enjoy. As evidence of that, Warner Brothers studios is celebrating their 100 year anniversary this year as the juggernaut production studio has spent decade after decade crafting classic films that will live on in pop culture history. To celebrate that feat, they are rereleasing one of their most iconic films and will see The Goonies hit theaters again for the first time since its initial release almost four decades ago.
Originally released in 1985, The Goonies centers around a ragtag group of friends who are in search of a big adventure. They get exactly what they are looking for when they find a map that they believe is going to lead them to hidden treasure, but face a number of obstacles along the way including booby traps and a gang of hoodlums who are hoping to beat the group in their pursuit of great wealth. The Goonies is an incredibly fun film for children and adults alike and that is exactly why the film is remembered so fondly today, and likely why Warner Brothers chose this project specifically to celebrate their 100 year anniversary. Now diehard fans as well as young fans who have never even had the chance to experience the classic film will have the chance to see it on the big screen, with The Goonies set to begin showing in AMC Theaters today, September 1st, and in Cinemark theaters on September 10th. Check the box offices at your local AMC theaters this weekend or your local Cinemark theaters starting September 10th to find out if they are showing The Goonies in celebration of Warner Brothers 100 year anniversary.
Warner Brothers has been in the business of producing media since the beginning of the 20th century, and as a result have amassed a small empire for themselves. The amount of films and franchises they own the rights to is probably in the thousands at this point, with The Goonies serving as one of the best representations of what they have been able to accomplish in the past century. The Goonies certainly has its fair share of diehard fans, but now an entire new generation of fans will be able to experience the timeless project in the comfort of a movie theater starting as early as today.
