Nas has won his first-ever Grammy for his project, King’s Disease. This news entirely comes as a shock because he’s been in the hip-hop scene for over 30 years. He’s also well known for his prolific wordplay and numerous contributions to the culture.
The album was deemed Best Rap Album. Other nominees included D Smoke for Black Habits, Jay Electronica for A Written Testimony, Freddie Gibbs and Alchemist for Alfredo, and Royce 5’9″ for The Allegory. Before winning this prestigious award, the hip-hop icon was nominated for one 14 times.
During a sit-down with Financial Times, he admitted to not being impressed by newer rappers. Nas said, “I appreciate what’s out there, but there’s no one keeping me up at night. I hear a new rap record and think it’s great, but I don’t listen to it the next week.”
However, Nas did say that Pop Smoke has won him over.
“We were happy to see that young king come up. He was a breath of fresh air. The drill movement in London, Chicago, and New York is really exciting.”
