Dwayne Johnson is a man of countless talents. Beginning his Hollywood career in the 1990’s as legendary WWE wrestler The Rock and quickly propelling to the top of the ranks, Johnson hasn’t taken his foot off the gas for a second since. He translated his success in the WWE to a successful career in film rather quickly, first appearing on the silver screen in the 2001 film The Mummy Returns starring Brendan Fraser. Since then Johnson has racked up 109 acting credits to date, becoming a staple in the Fast & Furious franchise and working alongside the likes of Kevin Hart to reboot the classic children’s film Jumanji. His most recent acting endeavor was actually a considerable feat for Johnson when he decided to lend his talents to the DC Universe to star in the upcoming Black Adam movie, the former WWE star’s first superhero project. He seemingly never intended to stop there however and has been enlisted to help with another upcoming DC project which his company is helping produce, the animated film DC League of Super-Pets.
The Rock became so integral to the Fast & Furious franchise that he inspired an incredibly successful spin-off film after being introduced as a supporting actor. This is a testament to the starpower the name Dwayne Johnson holds in Hollywood and why it is such a big deal for the actor to unite forces with DC and tackle the genre of superhero movies. Black Adam is set to release in 2022 after beginning filming last month in Atlanta, Georgia, however this isn’t the only DC project he has his sights set on. Johnson has been enlisted to lend his voice to the role of Kyrpto the Superdog in Warner Brothers’ upcoming animated project DC League of Super-Pets, Superman’s beloved dog who must fight crime while his owner is away on vacation, and his company Seven Bucks Production has signed up to produce the upcoming project as well.
While no one would dare doubt the intelligence of a man like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, it is obvious the professional wrestler is just as business savvy as he is talented. The potential for success here is huge given the demand for superhero movies in the modern film industry, and attaching a name like Johnson’s to a superhero project will only drive that demand through the roof. It makes sense why he is going all in on this partnership with Warner Brothers and DC, utilizing his own production company to ensure these films are successful and more than likely bringing his A game to production every single day. Fans of the iconic wrestler and superhero folklore alike can remain on the lookout for further updates about Johnson’s upcoming projects with DC.
