The American Mafia has an extensive history dating back to the 19th century when many Italians, amongst other ethnicities, immigrated to the United States. Since then, these individuals have become a staple of popular culture with films like Goodfells and A Bronx Tale glamorizing the lifestyle of the Italian-American. One film franchise has stood out amongst the rest however in The Godfather, a trilogy of films from the latter half of the 20th century considered to be amongst some of the greatest films Hollywood has ever produced. The following these films have is gargantuan, and only further fuels the general public’s fascination with this subset of the criminal underworld. Now a new project will give those fans a deeper look at the films they love so much with The Offer, a limited series being produced by Paramount about the making of The Godfather.
With the first of three The Godfather films releasing in 1972, the franchise has had half a century to capture the attention of moviegoers and permeate pop culture. Since then, it has become one of the most successful film franchises in the history of Hollywood that fans continue to rewatch and quote to this day. Now Paramount will be shedding some light on how the historic films came to life in a new limited series titled The Offer, a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the original and timeless 70’s classic The Godfather. The series is set to consist of ten episodes which will explore previously untold stories that helped shape production of The Godfather and will be written and executive produced by Nikki Toscano and Michael Tolkin. The project is currently slated to be released next year through Paramount’s in-house streaming service, Paramount+.
Virtually anybody who considers themselves a film fanatic has seen The Godfather. Thus it is no surprise that Paramount would produce such a project, and they are doing it just in time for the original film’s 50th anniversary. While the official release date is still up in the air and further details about the project remain unavailable at this time, this is something fans of the iconic franchise do not want to miss. Until we have that information, said fans can rewatch The Godfather to pass the time and build excitement for The Offer.
