For those who don’t know, American Pie is an album and song released by American musician Don McLean in 1971. The song is considered by virtually everybody who has heard it an American classic that still lives on to this very day, and marks one of the most timeless eras in the history of recorded music. “The Day The Music Died” is also a line from the infamous song referring to a tragic plane crash which claimed the lives of esteemed musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J. P. Richardson which had a seismic impact upon the music industry as a whole. Now that line as well as American Pie and the impact it had upon the music industry is set to be explored further in the forthcoming documentary The Day The Music Died: The Story of Don McLean’s “American Pie”. Per McLean, “This documentary is something that will make people think, especially since so many throughout the years have asked me what certain lyrics meant or whom I was referring to, but now I finally can solve many of those mysteries.” Fans seemingly have plenty to look forward to when The Day The Music Died: The Story of Don McLean’s “American Pie” premieres on Paramount+ July 19th, and you can see the trailer for the project below.
