Word of the day
Despite her recent chart-topping achievements with her latest album, SZA seems less motivated than ever to continue her music career.
Will this be the end??
In fact, a recent social media update suggests quite the contrary. On Saturday, January 4, the artist took to X to share her plans for a significant shift in direction for her next two albums, hinting at an intention to eventually pivot away from music altogether.
Sza being the trending topic again!
SZA’s announcement regarding her potential exit from the music scene left many fans astonished, especially considering that her album, SOS, had only recently reclaimed the number one spot on the Billboard 200 charts due to the release of its deluxe edition – Lana.
Originally launched in 2022, this project garnered widespread critical praise and commercial success, and it surged back to the top following the debut of the expanded 15-track deluxe version on December 20, as reported by Billboard.
Expansion of the music debut
In terms of chart rankings, all iterations of the album are consolidated under the title SOS, which saw an impressive 178,000 equivalent units sold in the week following the release of the deluxe edition. With the Lana tracks being launched as a separate album, they still have potential to debut at number one on the Billboard 200. The 15 songs from this edition alone attracted 105,000 units, surpassing Michael Bublé’s Christmas album, which secured the number two spot that week by just 5,000 units.
SOS
It has been an impressive twenty-two months since SZA’s album SOS last claimed the number one position on the Billboard 200, marking the longest interval for any album to make a comeback to the top spot. This acclaimed sophomore record has now enjoyed a total of 11 nonconsecutive weeks at number one and has maintained its presence in the top 20 of the chart since its debut two years ago.
In recognition of this remarkable achievement and the ongoing support from her fans, SZA took to her Instagram Stories to express her gratitude, simply saying, “thank you.”
In a heartfelt message shared on X (formerly Twitter), she reflected on her incredible year, saying:
“If it weren’t for God’s blessings in my life this year, wow. My parents are in good health, I won three Grammys, secured the number one spot again, performed on Sesame Street, filmed a movie, graced the cover of Vogue, toured around the world, and received an award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Truly, who God blesses, no one can curse! NO ONE!!! Amen!”
