Whether he’s performing on stage, penning words on a page, or navigating through controversy, NLE Choppa remains committed to crafting his own story on his own terms.
NLE Choppa recently made a heartfelt return to his hometown of Memphis, delivering a meaningful message directed towards children rather than his usual chart-topping audience.
The rapper visited Porter-Leath Preschool to share his new children’s book, Cricket Stop Cricking, which provides touching insight into his growth as both an artist and a community role model. In a video posted by Fox 13 Memphis, the 21-year-old is seen sitting quietly and intently in front of a group of engaged preschoolers, reading from the colorful and vividly illustrated pages of his book.
His book adopts a similar approach, promoting kindness through a gentle narrative that reflects the common challenges faced during childhood.
“The essence of the story is to treat others with kindness,” he explained. Books like this can encourage children to be more receptive to learning.”
With Cricket Stop Cricking, Choppa shifts away from the intense energy of his music to embrace the more delicate flow of storytelling. This transition is not merely a change in direction; it’s a profound transformation. The rapper, recognized for his bold performances and viral presence online, now adds the title of children’s author to his growing array of creative endeavors.
Earlier this year, Choppa became embroiled in a cultural controversy when a photo from his Playgirl shoot led to allegations of queerbaiting. In response to the backlash, he confronted the criticism directly, showcasing his willingness to engage with important discussions.
“I’ve never engaged in gay baiting,” he expressed on X, asserting his stance. “It’s about embracing freedom. I’m proud of how God made me, inside and out.”
In a subsequent video filmed in a hotel bathroom, he reiterated his position with passion. “Stories get crafted around me because I don’t conform to expectations,” he stated.
