In a room full of executives and cultural leaders, Snoop Dogg sat on stage and announced, during a panel at Revolt Summit, that TDE is a “better version” of Death Row Records.
According to Variety, “L.A.’s rap roots was a common theme of the many discussions about the dominance of west coast powerhouses like TDE, home to Kendrick Lamar, SZA and Schoolboy Q. Run by Top Dawg, which Snoop commented was a “better version” of Death Row Records. Punch later tweeted that he was “humbled” by the compliment.”
However in 2013, Dogg had a different opinion. “No, they’re not the new Death Row,” said Snoop in an interview with Vibe. “TDE did it completely differently than Death Row did it. Death Row did it with a gangsta approach. We was smashin’ on n***as, fuckin’ people up, we was determined to be the hardest, meanest, baddest, coldest, roughest, toughest in the game. That was our mission. TDE, rappers. They peaceful, they love, they get down, they rappers from everywhere, and they represent hip-hop.”
TDE consists of the artists: Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q, Isaiah Rashad, SZA, Lance Skiiiwalker, SiR, Reason and Zacari.
