Every year around this time, Queen Elizabeth gets her well-deserved flowers from all the citizens of Britain. Circulating for 76 consecutive years, the Platinum Jubilee gives the commoners leeway to send their graces to Her Majesty. In like manner, musical figures from all over come to perform.
Previously, Queen, Ella Eyre, Lin Manuel Miranda, Andrea Bocelli, and Diana Ross blessed the stage with their talents. But, this time around, Alicia Keys was called upon to effortlessly wow the crowds. Deserving of the title R&B empress, Alicia Keys performed her verse on the Jay-Z-led single “Empire State of Mind,” a homage to the Big Apple.
From another perspective, others wondered why Keys would choose this song to perform in London. But, on the surface, Keys changed the lyrics around a smidge. Instead of belting the infamous line, “Now you’re in New York,” she switched it to “Now you’re in London.”
