Actor Christian Bale has arguably become best known for his role in The Dark Knight franchise where he delivered a stellar performance as the iconic superhero Batman. The trilogy has been lauded by audiences and critics far and wide and served, in part, as a catalyst for the modern renaissance of superhero films we are seeing today. Bale was certainly no Hollywood newcomer however, kicking off his career a few decades prior in the 1980s and seeing immense success ever since. Now he is set to star in a new project, but he will be playing a starkly different character in the film The Church of Living Dangerously.
In the upcoming project, Bale is set to star as a man named John Lee Bishop who quickly became corrupted by the amount of power he had garnered. Based upon a true story, Bishop was the pastor of a megachurch in Portland where he quickly became a local sensation. With this position and notoriety came wealth, and with wealth comes corruption. Bishop would end up becoming addicted to drugs and eventually smuggling them across the border from Mexico, a far cry from the life of any pastor most have met. While things might not have gone his way, Bishop will now be played by Christian Bale in The Church of Living Dangerously with the script being written by Charles Randolph and Bale to produce alongside New Regency.
Christian Bale has had a long and successful career in Hollywood that includes other films such as American Psycho and The Machinist. The array of roles he has played is impressive to say the least, and now he will be able to add corrupt Pastor to that list. The project is still in the early stages of production so not much else can be said about the film, but keep an eye open for future updates about The Church of Living Dangerously.
