As promised, rap sensation DaBaby premiered his surprise 30-minute 13-track album Blame It on Baby featuring some of the biggest names in music. He returns with his first visual effort, “Jump” featuring NBA YoungBoy in what we now know as “Quarantine Style”. The music video picks up where the comical 1-800-Blame-It-On-Baby album teaser left off, as he sprays a reporter outside his mansion with what seems to be Windex and has a cleaning crew inside his home.
NBA YoungBoy lends a helping hand, rapping poolside with some of the cleaners in the backdrop. The two go bar for bar as YoungBoy Never Broke Again calls upon the mumble rap style to kick off “Jump” with an energetic bounce before the rappers trade lyrics about setting things off in brawls, banks, and bedrooms. “Knock his head off his neck ’fore he look up,” DaBaby threatens, while YoungBoy flexes his royalty deposits (“ASCAP go straight to my baby”), and, later in the track, DaBaby shows off some of his hidden moves (“I Kurt Angle that ho”).
DaBaby’s infectuous charisma and larger-than-life personality is on full display here as he raps about his viral success over the past year. I find it to safe to say that this video may lead to a new Tik-Tok challenge as the director focused on DaBabys authentic dance move using a Swiffer (should we call it “The Swiff?”).
