According to Deadline, filming for Dune 3 is set to begin this June, a shift from earlier reports that suggested production wouldn’t start until 2026.
Last October, director Denis Villeneuve hinted that filming would commence the following year. Now, it’s confirmed as his immediate next project.
“I had anticipated working on another project first, but during a summer break, I found new inspiration that reignited my passion for finishing the story,” Villeneuve shared earlier this month.
He added, “I was deeply touched by the response to Part Two from film lovers worldwide. I sensed both a strong desire for more and a responsibility to complete this narrative.”
While Villeneuve is eager to return to the universe of Paul Atreides, he has stated that Dune 3, officially titled Dune: Messiah, will be his final entry in the series—despite additional books being available for adaptation. “Continuing beyond that would not be beneficial,” he told The Wrap in January.
What to Expect from Dune: Messiah
Dune: Part Two, which premiered in March 2024, has been nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Cinematography. At the recent BAFTA Awards, the film won Best Sound and Best Special Visual Effects.
Casting
Villeneuve’s interpretation of Frank Herbert’s legendary sci-fi saga boasts an impressive cast, including Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, Dave Bautista, and Javier Bardem. Their performances bring depth and complexity to this visually stunning and narratively rich sequel.
