The film Inside Out 2, which hit theaters nearly two months ago, has now claimed the title of the top-grossing movie of the year. This remarkable feat is further accentuated by the fact that it is the first animated movie to cross the one billion dollar mark in international box office earnings, setting a new record in the film industry.
According to Deadline, the flick has reached a total of $1.002 billion in international box office earnings. Box Office Mojo also reports that Inside Out 2 has five international markets: Brazil, Mexico, the U.K., France, and South Korea.
Throughout the summer, Inside Out 2 has emerged as one of Disney’s hottest films, contributing to the franchise’s success at the box office in recent months. The first film, released in 2015, follows a similar storyline as its predecessor and features the main character, Riley, as she navigates puberty and experiences new emotions, such as anxiety and embarrassment.
Several other films have also grossed over $1 billion internationally. These include Avengers, Avatar, Avatar: The Way of Water, Titanic, Avengers: Infinity War, Jurassic World, Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Lion King, and The Fate of the Furious, to name a few.
Overall, Inside Out 2 currently ranks high among Disney’s highest-grossing films worldwide this year. The animated flick follows Deadpool & Wolverine‘s success, garnering $1.2 million at the box office to date.
